Disappointment Over Village People Performing at Trump’s Inauguration
15 January 2025
Tom Gattos, co-founder of the Rainbow Lottery, appeared on Nick Ferrari’s LBC radio show to share his thoughts on the controversial decision by the Village People to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Known for their iconic LGBTQ+ anthems and celebration of diversity, the group’s decision has left many in the community, including Tom, feeling deeply disheartened.
“Seems like that cowboy hat was really a MAGA cap all along,” Tom remarked during the interview. “I’m bewildered and disappointed. Their music was an anthem of unity, diversity, and fun. This move feels like they’re doing a disco version of ‘crossing the picket line.’ It’s a betrayal!”
Tom also shared a personal anecdote, recalling a time when he danced with one of the Village People in a nightclub during the 1980s, highlighting how their music had once been a source of joy and connection for the LGBTQ+ community. “Now it feels like we were dancing with the enemy,” he said.
The Rainbow Lottery, which supports over 200 causes dedicated to creating a more inclusive and accepting society, was founded on values that echo the spirit of unity and diversity once celebrated by the Village People’s music. Tom’s disappointment reflects the sentiments of many who feel this decision undermines those very ideals.
